Overview
Preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation includes participation in one or more service projects. As Catholics and as human beings we are called to live out the call of Confirmation to spread and proclaim the Catholic faith to all corners of the world. As John Paul II says, we are called to be “salt and light for the world.” This faith is shared with and expressed to others not only in our daily lives of prayer and virtue, but also in the way we love those around us through our actions, our service, our commitment to bringing the light of the Gospel to people through all we do. As St. Francis says, “preach the Gospel at all times, and if you have to use words.”

Suggestions for Selecting Service Projects
Examples
Community: Any “free” service you do as an individual or as a group to help out the community in which we live. For example: raking leaves, clothing or food drives, service projects, doing chores for elderly neighbors, volunteering to help youth groups and youth sports, create a welcome package for new families that come to town, etc.
Church: Any “free” service you do as an individual or as a group to help out our Church. For example: Serving at Mass, helping the Faith Formation coordinator, singing in the choir for Mass, being a reader for Mass, working at the parish festival or parish events, church cleaning, cleaning up outside of the church, etc.
School: Any “free” service you do as an individual or group to help at a school (does not need to be the school you attend). For example: Volunteering with a school-based club by organizing or working at a school food/book/clothing drive, performing with your school choir/band/theater group for a senior center, nursing home, daycare, etc. outside of school hours and not for school credit, managing or coaching younger teams of students under education and enrichment activities for children, tutoring other students, assisting teachers and other school staff (organizing, copying, cleaning, etc.), start an after school book club, organize a welcome packet for new students, etc.
